Currently Reading

My son woke up at five this morning (darn that daylight saving time!) So I'm sitting here listening and watching via our video monitor as he protests waiting until six to get up and out of that crib.  There are moments I think he'll go back to sleep, but then...NOPE!

So here I am to tell you about my current book.

11/22/63 by Stephen King.

I started it way back in September when we went to Cali, and I'm just now coming back around to it.  I re-started the Harry Potter series and I'm also working my way through a couple of teaching type books for my 30 before 30 list, as well as a book about the Paleo Diet.  I've been interested to hear the science behind it.  Anyone have any feedback on it, good or bad?  (We aren't dieters per se, but I do like to know what real research says and best practices on getting a little healthier!)  Oh! And I'm also close to finishing Soul Revolution by our Pastor at church.

So this book...

Good schtuff so far.  The set up was a little slow, but the main character, Jake, finds a port back in time through this older gentleman who owns a diner.  He travels back to 1958 to prevent the JFK assassination, so it seems as though he is going to have to live a few years in the past in order to get to 11/22/63.  Then he should be able to get back to the port and walk back into 2012 like it was 2 seconds later and have a cup of coffee with the old man that showed him the port in the first place.  At least that's the plan!  I will say that I'm waiting for some creepy Stephen King plot lines though.  I can't tell if this is going to be scary/suspenseful or just good ole regular suspense.

yay books.

Note: It sounds like I'm reading a lot, and I do...however, it's in the little moments that I can grab.  Dishes and laundry tend to get back burnered by me quite frequently.

Describe (in words or photos) your favorite reading space.

No photo for this post, because I love to read in our closet!  I don't really want you all to see our mess of clothes and shoes in there.

We moved into the most amazing house this year, and the master closet is super spacious.  I found out the other day that sitting on the floor in there is the perfect spot to read.  I am situated nicely under the windows so I get good natural sunlight,  I nurse my baby in there sometimes after his bath, so our extra boppy pillow is in there (also good for an impromptu nap on the floor, which is how the mister found me the other day...drooling, I might add....) and there is nothing to distract me really!  I find when I sit down to read downstairs I see the laundry or the dishes close by and get off track.  If I'm secluded upstairs I don't see the things I need to do as much and will actually enjoy my good quiet reading time.  Everything gets a little neglected, but when you are reading a book like Pride and Prejudice, it's worth it! Am I right, or am I right?

The Clan of Cave Bear

I just finished The Clan of Cave Bear!

My mom bought this book for me on my Kindle (nice gift!) and said it was a series she read when she was younger, the first of which was published in 1980.  It looks as though there are six books total!  I have some serious reading to do if I want to keep up with Ayla.  (the main character)

Ayla is a cro-magnon human girl who is orphaned in an earthquake and ends up being saved by a neanderthal clan.  So this is set in an ancient era and explores her communication, differences, and struggles in growing up completely immersed in a culture foreign to her own.  I don't want to give too much away and I do feel like the first book was fairly slow but it was setting up the plot for more drama in the next books!

I'm going to set this series aside for a bit and switch gears into Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller.  I haven't read many any books related to Christianity in a long while so I'm overdue, BUT judging by the remarks of friends who have read this book I'm excited to get going!

No coke today so far...but I almost stopped on my way home from yoga.  yikes...I was ____this close!  Sweet Leaf Half and Half it is!  (the Arnold Palmer of SLTeas!)
